The first dental visit should be scheduled as soon as the first tooth erupts. During the appointment, the pediatric dentist will examine your child’s teeth and oral cavity, discuss proper brushing techniques and eating habits, and provide personalized recommendations based on your child’s needs.

Baby teeth play a crucial role in your child’s development, supporting chewing, speech, and guiding the eruption of permanent teeth. Therefore, they must be properly cared for through effective brushing and a balanced diet. Preventing cavities and avoiding complex treatments helps ensure a healthy permanent dentition.

Children should be taught from an early age to brush their teeth twice daily. As a parent, you should assist them during brushing and complete the process where necessary until they develop the skills to do it properly on their own. Using a fluoride toothpaste from the appearance of the first tooth and an age-appropriate toothbrush is essential. Also, providing a healthy diet low in sugar and acidic foods will help prevent dental problems.

Harmful habits such as thumb sucking or prolonged use of pacifiers can impact the development of the jaw and the alignment of the front teeth. These habits may also interfere with proper speech development and pronunciation. It’s important to gently encourage your child to give up these habits to support healthy oral and language development.

Fluoride plays an essential role in dental health. Baby teeth are lower in minerals and fluoride, making them more vulnerable to demineralization and cavities. That’s why it’s recommended to use fluoride toothpaste and, when necessary, consider professional fluoride treatments. Fluoride helps remineralize tooth enamel and prevent cavities, offering long-term protection for your child’s teeth.

Your child’s first dental visit should take place after the first tooth erupts, ideally when there are no urgent issues or pain. This helps the child become comfortable with the dental office and the pediatric dentist in a relaxed setting. During the appointment, the dentist will introduce the child to the dental tools and equipment in a friendly and child-appropriate manner to create a positive, stress-free experience.

To prevent cavities, follow these essential guidelines:

  • Schedule the first dental appointment as soon as the first teeth erupt. You’ll receive key advice on brushing, suitable toothpaste, and proper brushing techniques.
  • Avoid putting your child to sleep with a bottle containing milk, juice, or other sweetened liquids, as they promote tooth decay.
  • Establish regular mealtimes and snack schedules, and avoid sugary or carbohydrate-rich foods.
  • Clean the baby’s mouth even before teeth appear using a sterile gauze to remove bacteria and help the child get used to oral hygiene.
  • Once the first tooth erupts, begin brushing with an appropriate toothbrush and a small amount of fluoride toothpaste.

Any dental trauma is a medical emergency, regardless of severity. If a baby tooth is involved, stay calm and reassure your child. Do not attempt to reinsert a knocked-out tooth. Call a pediatric dental clinic for immediate guidance and schedule an urgent consultation.

If a permanent tooth is affected, recover the tooth or broken fragment carefully without touching the root. Place it in a suitable liquid medium (saline solution or milk) and go to a specialized dental clinic as soon as possible—ideally after calling in advance for instructions.

Yes. The modern digital imaging equipment used in our clinics emits minimal radiation with no harmful effects on children. As an extra precaution, children wear a lead vest to block radiation from reaching the body. X-rays are essential for accurate diagnosis and effective treatment planning.

The first orthodontic consultation is recommended around the age of 7, when the child has a mixed dentition (both baby and permanent teeth). At this stage, the jawbones are more adaptable, making it easier to correct orthodontic issues. Early orthodontic treatment can guide proper jaw and tooth development, preventing future dento-maxillary anomalies. The earlier the treatment begins, the shorter and more effective it may be.

At DENT ESTET 4 KIDS clinics, we offer the option to perform dental treatments under general anesthesia (with intubation), supervised by an anesthesiologist. This option is recommended for patients for whom conventional treatments are not feasible.

The child’s safety and comfort are our top priorities. General anesthesia allows treatments to be performed in a controlled, pain-free, and stress-free environment.
