FIRST VISIT

Your child’s first visit to the pediatric dentist
At DENT ESTET 4 KIDS, every first visit marks the beginning of an essential journey towards lifelong dental health for the future adult.
We want our young patients to enjoy a pleasant, relaxing experience—free of the fear that can sometimes come with a trip to the dentist.

When is the right time for your child’s first dental visit?
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that the child’s first visit to the pediatric dentist take place at the age of 1 year, or at the latest 6 months after the first tooth appears.
The recommendation is that this first visit takes place before the appearance of a medical problem that would require treatment, so that the first experience is relaxed and comfortable for the child.
Despite these recommendations, in Romania, the average age at which children first arrive at the dentist is 4, 6 years. Most of the time, the child is brought to a first consultation when he already accuses pain in the teeth
Benefits of an early visit to the pediatric dentist:
- Early detection of potential dental issues
- Parents receive essential preventive care guidance
- Helps build trust between the child and dentist
A personalized experience—before the first checkup
Children need to feel comfortable at the dentist to guarantee the success of the treatments recommended by the medical team. Therefore, we invite you to discover the unique atmosphere of DENT ESTET 4 KIDS clinics just before the appointment, during a first accommodation visit.
Why an accommodation visit to the pediatric dentist is necessary
The accommodation meeting is a fun and educational visit that can be extremely useful for younger children or for those who need a period of accommodation when facing new experiences.
During the accommodation visit, children will:
- Meet the friendly clinic team
- Explore our fun, child-themed spaces, with customized rooms and age-appropriate areas

What makes the accommodation visit so helpful:
- Helps children get used to dental tools, sounds, and the environment
- Offers an initial oral health check
- Assessment of the risk of tooth decay and recommendation, as appropriate, of dental seals Preventive advice regarding oral injuries
- Insights on normal dento-maxillary development (with potential orthodontic assessment depending on age)
- Evaluation of bite and identification of harmful oral habits

What things do we check during your child’s first visit?
- Careful examination of teeth and gums
- Assessment of dental eruption patterns
- Detection of early signs of cavities and discussion on prevention
- Detailed medical history to identify any systemic conditions impacting oral health
- Hygiene evaluation and instructions for proper brushing and flossing at home
- Guidance for infants on teething and care of first teeth
- Advice on harmful habits (thumb sucking, pacifier use after age 2) and bruxism (teeth grinding)
- Orthodontic referral for children aged 7+ if alignment or jaw issues are present
- Discussion on dental trauma prevention and use of protective gear for sports
The entire process is child-friendly, explained in a way that makes sense to young patients. If needed, the dentist may recommend additional investigations.

What if your child doesn’t cooperate with the pediatric dentist?
There are situations when children fail to overcome feelings such as fear or anxiety either at the accommodation visit or at the first visit to the dental office. For these cases, DENT ESTET 4 KIDS has a dedicated team of child psychologists ready to help little patients overcome their fears.
If, after two visits, your child still struggles to cooperate, the dentist may recommend starting in-clinic counseling sessions with one of our seven psychologists.
Most likely, behind uncooperative behavior of the child are certain emotional blockages, trauma, fears or hypersensitivity that deserve more special attention.
- Overcome fear and anxiety
- Develop cooperative behavior
- Feel safe during dental interactions
- Accept necessary treatments with ease
